First Deluxe Edition, First Printing. Highly sought after "De Luxe Edition." Illustrations by Rockwell Kent that are to this day regarded as amongst the best illustrations for Moby Dick ever created. This edition includes 8 additional illustrations made exclusively by Kent for this publication. In addition, this sought after version has the iconic whale flukes design on the front cover and the harpoon motif on the spine, (neither of which are present on either the Random House First Trade Edition nor the Lakeside Press Limited Edition).

Near fine in blue pictorial cloth with gilt to type and illustrations, with only slight wear along the head and tail of the spine and some offsetting. Spine somewhat toned. No dust jacket, as issued. Octavo. 822 pp + [finis]. A fantastic copy, one of the best we've seen.
