Grinning Cat Books is a United States-based corporation located in the state of Maryland. Consequently, as required by US law, we currently collect taxes only for orders shipping to an address in Maryland, USA.
For international orders, VAT, duties, and other fees required by law or certain delivery carriers may apply. These will be usually be shown at checkout, where applicable. However, if there is a problem of any sort or if you have questions, please call us.
We offer free shipping in the United States and worldwide for standard sized items!
Items shipped in the US are delivered via USPS Media Mail or Priority Mail unless another method of shipment is requested or deemed appropriate by us.
For international deliveries, packages will be sent via DHL, Federal Express, UPS, or USPS International, depending on the size and weight of the order, and the particulars of the international destination.
Please note that a shipping or postage fee may be applicable for very heavy or oversized books, book sets, art, and other items, where the decision to apply additional postage to an order is determined by Grinning Cat Books in its sole discretion. Where applicable, shipping charges are calculated individually based upon the size, weight, value, speed, and destination of the order. Any posted shipping rates serve as an average baseline amount only, and any applicable shipping, insurance costs, duties, and taxes are in addition to the stated purchase price.
In any instance where a shipping fee is being considered, we will contact to discuss any additional postage or other costs prior to mailing your purchases. There will be no surprises.
All books and other products shown on our website are in stock and ready to be shipped. Once an order is received it is typically processed and shipped within three (3) business days.
We always do our utmost to ensure that your purchases arrive safely and in top condition. As such, all books and other products, regardless of value, are very carefully and professionally packed.
Finally, as a customer focused company, we are happy to accommodate individual shipping and wrapping requests where reasonably possible. Just let us know! As such, next-day, second day, and other expedited shipping means and times are often available upon request and we will do our best to accommodate such requests (although delivery dates provided are estimates only).

When an order is fulfilled by us a confirmation email is sent out to you shortly thereafter, typically on the same day (if not within the first 30 minutes). If you haven't received a confirmation mail within 24 hours after placing your order please check your spam folder first. (Yes, it's still a thing). If you still cannot locate the email please contact us and we'll make sure everything is in order!
If you decide to change your order after a purchase, what happens next depends on whether or not your order is with a carrier or has already shipped. In cases where your order is still with us and has not been placed with a carrier or shipped, we will simply cancel your order and help you with your requested change. You will receive a confirmation email for the new order and a cancellation email for the old order.
However, in the event that your order has left us and is with a carrier or is already in transit, you will need to follow our return process. Please call us and we will help facilitate your change request(s) and any related shipping or return processes.

Yes, we do sell certain books and other items on consignment. Each decision to do so, and related pricing, terms of sale, etc., are made on an individual basis depending upon the books / products, the number of items, quality, our then-current inventory, and other considerations. From a customer perspective, items sold on a consignment basis are displayed, marketed, and otherwise treated like our owned inventory.

Absolutely! Our mission to promote and facilitate rare book collecting no matter what your interests or budget. If there are specific titles or genres you're interested in, or if you want help curating a set or collection, please give us a call.
In some instances, we might have what you're looking for in our inventory, even though the book(s) are not currently for sale online yet. If we don't have what you're seeking we can actively try to acquire what you want. This is bread and butter work for our team and business!
