Welcome to the world of rare book collecting at Grinning Cat Rare Books ("GCB" in short)! I'm Paul, the owner and Chief Mad Hatter, and I want to thank you for visiting our shop. As lifelong bibliophiles, my wife and I have been avidly collecting books and literary inspired art for over 40 years. Beginning with modest purchases, we eventually curated a world-class collection of thousands of titles and became experts along the way. We established GCB a few years ago to participate in this vibrant, global community more deeply as official dealers, and to share our experience and passion for collecting and life-long learning.

Our mission is to make rare book collecting an engaging, fun, and accessible experience for everyone. Too often, collecting can be an intimidating, bewildering, and seemingly "exclusive" endeavor. It shouldn't be! As a new breed of dealer, we've created an experience that's as welcoming to curious first-timer buyers as to seasoned collectors alike. Consequently, whether you're adding to a large library, starting your first rare collection, investing, searching for a special gift, or simply buying for personal pleasure, you'll find the information you need and wonderful options for every budget and occasion!

At GCB, we don't try to be all things to all people. Instead, we boast an ever-changing selection around topics and themes we enjoy and that our customers appreciate. Our team is unabashedly eclectic, so watch out for exciting new arrivals and collections rolling out on a weekly and monthly basis! 

Because quality is incredibly important to us, we specialize in exciting books and art in very good to fine condition. Top quality only. A great many are first, limited, and signed editions—with a good number exceedingly rare and scarce. In addition, we've invested in a highly visual, feature-rich digital experience to make your time with us more enjoyable. For example, we showcase detailed descriptions and more photos than the vast majority of dealers. Happy, wholly satisfied customers are what we strive for.

Grinning Cat Books is online only for now. With that said, we have a by-appointment library in Potomac, Maryland, and you'll see us at various events as well.
