Intruder in the Dust (First English Edition)

FAULKNER, WILLIAM
Chatto Windus 1949

$525

First UK edition (the first American edition was published in the previous year). Near fine in a fine dust Jacket. This is a novel by the famous American author William Faulkner (1897-1962). The book focuses on Lucas Beauchamp, a black farmer accused of murdering a white man. He is exonerated through the efforts of black and white teenagers and a spinster from a long-established Southern family. It was written as Faulkner's response as a Southern writer to the racial problems facing the South. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with very mild fading to the rear board spine (although the dust jacket is present and fine). The contents are tight and clean. One of the best copies on the market.
