Paul West (b. 1930,- d. 2015) was was a prolific, award-winning, British-born American novelist, poet, and essayist who authored dozens of novels, non-fiction books, and short stories over his long career. At times satirical, maudline, macabre, hilarious and outright bonkers, West's "Alley Jagger" character and trilogy by that name are amongst the novels he is most remembered for. West was born in the UK in Eckington, a mining town in Derbyshire and, although a long time resident of the US until his death, Eckington provided the setting for this famous trilogy: Alley Jaggers (West's third book), in which the title character, Alley Jagger, a plasterer with an artist’s soul facing hard times, turns to murder; I’m Expecting to Live Quite Soon, which describes the moral awakening of Alley’s outrageous, liberated, yet pitiable wife, Dot; and, Bela Lugosi’s White Christmas, which recounts Alley’s experiences in a hospital for the criminally insane.

Each volume fine in a fine dust jacket. Octavo. Alley Jaggers, 242 pp., I'm Expecting to Live Quite Soon, 244 pp., Bela Lugosi's White Christmas, 140 pp.
