FITZGERALD, F. SCOTT
Charles Scribner's Sons 1934

Dhs. 8,202.00

First Edition, second state lacking the Scribner's 'A'on the copyright page. The book is in great shape. The binding is tight, with very light wear to the spine and edges. The pages are clean with no writing, marks or bookplates in the book. Overall, a beautiful, near fine copy in green cloth with the gilt spine lettering relatively bright, lacking the dj. Decorations by Edward Shenton. Nearing the end of his life, Fitzgerald contemplates marriage, success, and the emotional toll that mental health problems can take on a couple. This haunting novel set in the 1920s follows Dick and Nicole Driver's troubled marriage, and the damage imposed by his affair with a young actress. These same troubles were echoed in Fitzgerald's own family; his wife Zelda, having struggled her whole life with depression, had been placed long-term in a sanitarium, while Fitzgerald battled alcoholism and strove to re-launch his career in Hollywood. Unbeknownst to the author, this self-reflecting book would be the last of his lifetime.
