Strength to Love (First Edition, by MLK, Jr.)

Dhs. 1,398.00

First Edition First Printing. Fine in a very good dust jacket. Dr. King's second book. Octavo. 146 pp. A terrific copy of this timeless classic by Martin Luther King, Jr. that is as relevant today as it was when published 60 years ago this year.

Strength to Love was Dr. King's first book of sermons. It was published the same year in which he penned his famous Letter from a Birmingham Jail, and joined the historic March on Washington where he delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech. He won the Nobel Peace Prize the following year. His wife, Coretta Scott King, believed that "if there is one book Martin Luther King, Jr. has written that people consistently tell me has changed their lives, it is Strength to Love." And she also said that the book "best explains the central element of Martin Luther King, Jr.' s philosophy of nonviolence: His belief in a divine, loving presence that binds all life. By reaching into and beyond ourselves and tapping the transcendent moral ethic of love . . . ."

Fine in publisher's original black and grey cloth boards; gilt spine text fine. Internal content fine, bright, clean and unmarred. Binding is fine, square and tight. In a very good, original dust jacket (which are typically found in worse condition). Bight and clean, unfaded, with a bit of rubbing on the front (but that does not detract from the cover's presentation); and rubbing to the rear cover photo. A bit of wear on the spine head and tail and along the edges, with two very small closed tears; hard to see if not looking for them.
