Wilson was a British soldier, mountaineer and aviator who is known for his ill-fated attempt to climb Mount Everest alone in 1934, where he died in the attempt. The book is based upon Wilson's personal journal found with his body on the mountain a year after his death by Eric Shipton and fellow climbers.
