Near fine in a very good dust jacket. An excellent copy of the Nobel winner's classic, the novel Steinbeck considered his magnum opus. First edition, first printing, first state with bright original green cloth boards with the word 'bite' present on page 281, line 38. First issue dust jacket with price of $4.50 and with photo of Steinbeck on rear panel with no photo credit mentioned. Dust jacket is rich in color with slight wear to the front edge and spine tail and foot. Binding is tight with minor wear to the boards. The pages are clean with no marks. A very nice copy.
