First American Edition, First Printing (Random House, NY, 1938). Both written and illustrated by famed Babbar creator, Jean De Brunhoff. Translated from the original French by Merle Haas, where the first true edition and printing was published in France and in French a year earlier in 1937.  illustrated throughout in vibrant color by Brunhoff himself. Near fine in publisher's red pictorial boards with slight edge and corner wear and a bit of scuffing to the rear board. Playfully illustrated front and rear pastedown and free endpapers with Babbar himself. Internally fine, with content and illustrations clean, bright, and unmarred. Lacking the dust jacket. Quarto. Unpaginated. W wonderful copy.
